Reduce. Reuse. Repurpose. Recycle.
Environmental responsibility is not separate from our social mission.
It is central to it.
Waste Not Crew exists because people and the planet are harmed by the same systems of disposability.

Responses to hoarding and chronic disorganisation are often disposal-led by default.
When speed and cost are prioritised, usable items are sent to landfill simply because it is easier than taking the time to reuse or repurpose them.
This approach:
• wastes resources and labour
• increases carbon emissions
• damages local environments
• disproportionately affects already marginalised communities
We reject this as inevitable or acceptable.

Waste Not Crew follows a clear hierarchy:
Reduce
We minimise unnecessary removal and disposal. We challenge assumptions that safety requires total clearance.
Reuse
We prioritise keeping items in use — within the home, within families, or circulating through the community.
Repurpose
Where items can no longer serve their original function, we look for alternative uses that extend their life.
Recycle
Recycling is used responsibly when reuse is not possible. It is a last step, not a headline.
Landfill is a last resort.

Our environmental commitment is embedded in daily decisions, not policy statements.
This includes:
• supporting people to make informed choices about possessions
• separating usable items from true waste
• working with local reuse and recycling networks where possible
• avoiding unnecessary destruction of materials
• resisting time pressures that lead to disposal-heavy outcomes
Environmental care is built into the pace and structure of our work.

Environmental harm is not evenly distributed.
Landfill sites, pollution and waste processing disproportionately impact communities experiencing poverty and exclusion — the same communities most likely to be denied access to support.
Waste Not Crew treats environmental protection as a justice issue, not a lifestyle choice.
Protecting the environment is part of protecting people.

We are committed to being honest about our impact.
As Waste Not Crew develops, we aim to:
• track waste diverted from landfill
• reflect on and improve our environmental practice
• share learning with funders and partners
• adapt our methods as capacity and evidence grow
We do not claim perfection. We commit to responsibility.

• prioritise speed over environmental harm
• frame landfill as a solution
• ignore environmental impact for convenience
• separate social care from environmental responsibility
These are ethical boundaries, not operational preferences.
